Microworkers Review – Get Paid to do Short Tasks

Microworkers is a web-based company founded in Dallas, Texas in 2009. Over the past six years it has built an image of one of the top-rated crowdsourcing platforms. Similar to Clickworker and Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk), Microworkers offers good work-at-home opportunities for all kinds of people who wish to make money online. However, it somewhat stands out from most other micro job sites. Whilst MTurk hires mostly US-based freelancers to do short tasks, Microworkers welcomes people from all over the world.

What types of jobs are out there on Microworkers?

From liking Facebook pages to posting threads on forums, you will find all sorts of small projects there. The platform has almost the same type of a set-up as Amazon Mechanical Turk . Have in mind that you only get paid not for the tasks you’ve completed but for those that have been approved after reviewing. For more detailed information, you might want to read the Guidelines and FAQ. The information that concerns employees in on the left side of the FAQ page.

Most of the jobs you’ll find on Microworkers platform are requested by small online businesses. Those tasks would involve you to draw traffic to a website or blog, write reviews and comments, subscribe to newsletters, like or rate posts, videos, and pages on social networking platforms. Also, you will be asked to vote for pictures, articles, and videos, follow people on Twitter, Pinterest; like and leave comments on YouTube videos; write articles or short blog posts; download apps and leave reviews for them, etc.

How does it work?

Create your account and pick a task. You are free to take as many or as less tasks as you want. After you finish, you have to submit your work. The employer will review the task and if it meets his expectations, he’ll approve and send you the money. My advice is to take only those tasks that you are sure you can complete with success. Otherwise, you take the risk to work for nothing.  In case the employer has neither reviewed, nor approved the task within a week, the job will be considered done and you’ll get your money.

Qualification required

One of the best things about these jobs is that no special skills or former experience is required. This means beginner freelancers and anyone else who wants to put some cash aside can apply. Indeed, Microworkers is a great starting point for newbies.

Technical requirements

You will need a fast computer with high-speed Internet connection.

  3. You’ll be directed to an online application form. Fill in the required details. Be careful, double check everything, make sure to leave no mistakes.
  4. Submit.
  5. Wait for a verification email. You might want to check your email spam box.
  6. After the account verification process is done, you can start doing tasks for Microworkers.

How much money can I earn doing short tasks on Microworkers?

Logically, the more tasks you complete, the more money you can get. Depending on how complex and time-consuming they might be, rates per micro project range from $0.10 to $5. On an average, you can earn around $1-$3 dollars on a daily basis. However, the trick is not to be money-driven, but remain focused on the job. Note that Microworkers takes 7.5% fee for each task.

Payment methods

Microworkers pays their workers via PayPal, Skrill and Dwolla. Payments are sent twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. You will be allowed to request payment not until your account balance has reached $10. Important to know, based on the method of payment you choose, Microworkers charges a percentage from your earnings as payment processing fees. This information is not announced in the FAQ and guidelines, but you have to take it into account.

Is this work-from-home job opportunity available worldwide?

Yes, Microworkers accepts applicants from worldwide.

Are you considered an independent contractor or an employee?

You will be working for Microworkers as an independent contractor. Therefore, you have to manage your own taxes.

On balance

If you are looking for a web-based company that offers scam-free short tasks, Microworkers can do this for you. It is a good opportunity to add extra money to your salary. However, be under no illusion that you can earn a minimum wage. That won’t happen. Regardless the payout fees, it seems like doing short tasks in Microworkers is better than on MTurk because chances are high that you’d be better paid. On the other hand, jobs may be easy to do, but they are still low-paid and some workers decide it’s not worth the time and effort. Many workers say that the number of micro tasks available at any time seems to be too low. Despite some complaints from former workers regarding payments, the overall feedback on this platform is positive. My advice is, go for it – register and test the waters, but don’t put your expectations high and look for other work from home options in the meantime.
